What is Ayurveda?+

Ayurveda is one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. The word 'Ayurveda' comes from Sanskrit: ayur (life) and veda (knowledge). It teaches that health is a dynamic balance of mind, body, and spirit — and that each person's constitution (prakriti) determines the ideal path to wellness. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, Ayurveda addresses root causes through personalised diet, herbal medicine, lifestyle practices, and therapeutic treatments.

What happens in a first consultation?+

Your initial consultation with Vaidya Manal lasts approximately 60–75 minutes. It begins with a detailed conversation about your health history, current concerns, daily routine, diet, sleep patterns, and emotional wellbeing. Vaidya Manal will assess your prakriti (natural constitution) and vikriti (current imbalances) using classical Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis, observation, and questioning. From this, a personalised treatment plan is developed — which may include therapeutic sessions, herbal recommendations, and lifestyle guidance.

What should I bring or prepare for my appointment?+

Come on an empty or light stomach if possible, and avoid heavy perfumes or oils on the day. Bring a list of any medications or supplements you are currently taking. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Most importantly, come with openness — Ayurveda is a deeply personal journey, and the more honestly you can describe your experience, the better Vaidya Manal can support you.

Is this covered by insurance?+

Ayurvedic treatments are generally not covered by conventional health insurance, as they fall under complementary and alternative medicine. Some private health plans or health savings accounts (HSAs) in certain countries may offer partial reimbursement — check your specific plan. We are happy to provide a detailed receipt for you to submit to your insurer.

How is Ayurveda different from conventional medicine?+

Conventional medicine primarily focuses on diagnosing and treating specific diseases, often through pharmaceutical interventions. Ayurveda takes a root-cause approach — it asks why an imbalance has occurred and works to restore harmony at every level of being. The two systems are complementary, not competing. Many clients use Ayurveda alongside conventional care. Vaidya Manal will never advise you to stop prescribed medications, and she is happy to coordinate with your GP or specialist.

Do I need to commit to multiple sessions?+

Not at all. You are welcome to begin with a single consultation or session and experience the benefit before committing further. That said, Ayurveda works best as a sustained practice — many conditions that have developed over years respond most fully to a course of treatments combined with lifestyle shifts. Vaidya Manal will be honest about realistic timelines during your first appointment.

Can I book online consultations or only in-person sessions?+

Both options are available. Herbal consultations and follow-up appointments can be conducted online via video call. Hands-on treatments such as Shirodhara, Abhyanga, and Nasya require an in-person visit. Please reach out via the contact page or WhatsApp to discuss what is available in your location.
